My thoughts on Service to Humanity

by Sanjeev Sarna

Service to Humanity, in my humble view, is synonymous with Karma Yoga. Serving others with full enthusiasm, as if you are serving your beloved or your own self, with unselfish thoughts; without any motive, where serving itself is the motive, in the spirit of complete surrender – this is my personal interpretation of Karma Yoga. Ramakrishna Paramhansa, a great Indian sage said: “The first step along the path to becoming Sattvik is to become unselfish”. Confirming the virtues of service to humanity and illuminating the path to reaching our own higher self, Swami Vivekananda said: “Whenever the opportunity to serve others beckons you, first be grateful to God that he thought you to be worthy of serving others; and then be grateful to the one who has given you this opportunity to serve. This unselfish act of service will benefit you the most, as you are sowing the seeds for your own good future.”
